Innovative ways to spread awareness - January Contest

You wrote to us about the issues that were close to your heart. So let’s say you have been chosen to run a campaign to raise awareness of that cause or issue. What are some of the innovative ways you will use to spread awareness for your campaign to be successful?

The top 2 entries will win a copy of the recently published novel “The Breakup,”by Vijayendra Haryal, author of ‘Social Media Simplified: Twitter, Facebook Beyond Casual Networking’. There is also another prize, which will be revealed when the results are announced.

I have personally been part of a T-shirt campaign. We gave out t-shirts with campaign messages printed on them. Other innovative ways I have seen are

• Campaign slogans and messages painted on vehicles, similar to ads on public transport
• Painting competitions/events - campaign related

Of course there are the usual ones like posters, flyers etc. But if i have to vote for one, it will be for a T-shirt painting event where plain white Ts where given out and participants were asked to paint on the t-shirt.

If, i want to creat an awareness campaign regarding any issue
* I will create an attractive and knowelgeable booklet about that issue and spread or supply it near colleges and schools.
*Try to organise small seminars regarding that issue in colleges, schools.
*If its possible we will try to connect with people by newspapers and media.
*If the campaign is big we can produce asscesories like mug, bags and T-shirts with a message on it .

I think we create awareness by these means..

Social Networking on the internet, and radio are two of the 'in-things' not only amongst youngsters but almost everyone today. Everyone who travels to work, does work at home, or sits idle, listens to the popular radio stations like Radio Mirchi, Hello FM, Radio One etc. These channels have already proved to be effective ways to put across views and spread messages. Hence the best way to deal with the issue I had talked about (a women's issue concerning their harassment and illiteracy) is to bring together people on discussions and related programs on the radio. That will surely have a wide wide reach.

Where youngsters are concerned, social networks are the place to grab their attention. Posts on twitter, or attractive facebook pages are sure to bring the issue to the attention of the net savvy generation. And once the attention has been caught, we can then proceed to find the solutions.

The best way to spread awareness is to make pamplets and distribute along with the daily newspaper. Newspaper being read by many people daily , the awareness message too will reach to major strata of the society. Writers can write blog about the issue and create awareness. Facebook and twitter are gaining much popularity. Hence messages on these sites catch the attention of many netizens. Banners at appropriate places on the roads too catch the attention of many people.

Some innovative ways that I can think of are:
- start a blog, promoting it on several social media sites
- Organize public stage shows/plays/skits that convey the message
- Running quizes/contests that are designed to make people aware about the cause
- give away campaign badges/pins that people can wear on their sleeve/collar, thus helping to promote the cause

The most innovative way to spread awareness of something close to my heart will be of a vocal manner.
*If it relates to children, stories and small plays may work wonders.
* If it relates to older generation, local parks can be used during morning walk time for executing relative plays.
*For those who are in the middle, SMS can be made which is quite catchy.
